Life Cafe
Location: Crystal Palace, London
Architect: Chris Dyson
2020
Life Cafe stands proudly in the middle of Crystal Palace Park in South East London. The cafe, built in 2019, is designed by Chris Dyson Architects and is part of an overall package of ongoing improvement and conservation work for the area.
The building is clad externally in half round cedar shingles, which mimic the scaled skin of the nearby Grade I listed Victorian Dinosaur models, thus creating a direct connection to the history of the park.
Sitting comfortably within the landscape, the two-storey site features a new cafe and an events space, which provide panoramic views of the surrounding lake and green spaces.
The commercial revenue from the various ventures will go towards the ongoing conservation of the dinosaur sculptures and geological illustrations.
