The Arches

Location: Gospel Oak, London
Architect: The DHaus Company
2019 - 2023

AVR London have collaborated with DHaus for a number of years on a variety of projects, including animations, CGI's and photography. We were excited to work with them again on one of their latest projects – The Arches.

Sitting within the Dartmouth Park Conservation Area, The Arches is an ongoing project which plans to replace an abandoned petrol station along Highgate Road with six three-storey sunken houses.

The initial designs were originally inspired by the open green spaces, the Lungs of London, with plans to re-link the two green spaces either side of the site.

The materiality has also been heavily influenced by the gothic arches of the local church which sits to the rear of the site.

In addition to working with Dhaus on animations for the Arches (seen here), we began documenting the construction process back in 2019.

We were able to capture some interiors of the original dilapidated petrol station before it was demolished, and have gone on to document the construction process, from laying the foundations to installing the arches.
